Kerala hikes rubber support price to ₹200 a kg

Move expected to boost farmer sentiment ahead of local body polls

The State Cabinet has approved an increase in the support price for rubber from ₹180 to ₹200 a kg, in a decision likely to cheer rubber growers across Kerala. The revised rate will come into effect on November 1, coinciding with Kerala Piravi Day.

The last revision was made in 2024, when the government had raised the support price from ₹170 to ₹180 after a gap of three years. The latest increase comes at a time when global rubber production has dipped and domestic demand is on the rise, prompting expectations of a surge in local output.

Ministerial sources said the decision would particularly benefit rubber farmers in central Kerala and settler agricultural communities in the northern districts — regions where rubber cultivation remains a major source of livelihood.

Kerala continues to dominate India’s rubber production, accounting for over 80% of the country’s total output. With the new support price, the government hopes to stabilise incomes for smallholders and encourage replanting in areas where production has declined.
