Meitra Hospital has expanded its robotic joint replacement capabilities with the addition of a second advanced orthopaedic robotic surgery system, the Stryker Mako. With this, the Kozhikode-based hospital becomes the first in Kerala to have two dedicated robotic systems within its Orthopaedics Department.
The new system was inaugurated by actor-director Dhyan Sreenivasan and content creator Karthik Surya.
The second robotic system will enable Meitra to expand access to robot-assisted total knee replacement (TKR), partial knee replacement (PKR) and total hip replacement (THR) procedures. The technology assists surgeons in planning and performing procedures with greater precision, allowing implants to be positioned according to each patient’s individual anatomy.
Robotic assistance can also help reduce tissue trauma and blood loss and support earlier mobilisation and recovery. With two systems, the hospital expects to increase its capacity to perform robotic-assisted joint replacements and reduce waiting times as demand for advanced orthopaedic care grows.

He said the move reflected growing demand for precision-led joint replacement and would enable the hospital to extend advanced robotic surgery to more patients while strengthening its ability to manage complex cases.

The hospital said the need for advanced joint care is particularly relevant in Kerala, which has one of India’s fastest-ageing populations.
Meitra Hospital, part of BMH Group, was established in Kozhikode in 2018 and is accredited by JCI and NABH.
