Keralam will soon introduce amendments to laws that hinder industrial growth and economic development, Industries Minister PK Kunhalikutty said on September 23 at the inauguration of Dhanam Growth Summit 2026 in Thiruvananthapuram.
The minister said regulations that have become obstacles to development need to be changed, adding that the state is now witnessing greater acceptance of reforms among people.
“Economic growth is essential for nation-building. Keralam must create an environment where businesses can expand and generate wealth,” Kunhalikutty said while addressing entrepreneurs and business leaders at the summit.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve the industrial ecosystem, Kunhalikutty said several long-pending issues affecting businesses would be addressed through policy changes.
The government plans to implement measures such as a “One State, One Approval” system to simplify approvals and reduce delays for entrepreneurs. Issues related to land utilisation and land conversion, which have remained challenges for industries, will also be resolved on a priority basis, he said.
“The government’s policy is to encourage small and medium enterprises in every possible way. We need to share prosperity, not poverty,” he added.
Kunhalikutty said Keralam has significant potential to develop small-scale industries similar to China’s manufacturing ecosystem. He pointed out that Kerala has the infrastructure needed for businesses to manufacture products and export them to global markets.
“Small industries can create large opportunities. With the right policies and support systems, Keralam can emerge as a strong destination for entrepreneurs,” he said.
The minister appreciated Dhanam Magazine’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s business community.
He said the suggestions and discussions emerging from Dhanam Growth Summit would be compiled and submitted to the government for further study and possible action.
Kunhalikutty also said the government would soon take steps to resolve the current electricity-related challenges faced by industries. The issue has already been discussed by the Cabinet, he added.
The fourth edition of Dhanam Growth Summit 2026 brought together government officials, industry leaders and experts to discuss strategies for MSME growth, funding opportunities, market access and business expansion.
Key participants included Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) APM Mohammed Hanish, KSIDC managing director Snehil Kumar Singh, Vizhinjam Port CEO Pradeep Jayaraman and several business experts.
