Star Health and Allied Insurance has settled more than 17 lakh claims worth nearly ₹5,800 crore in Keralam since it began operations, as the standalone health insurer marked its 20th anniversary.
Keralam remains an important market for the company, which recorded gross written premium of ₹518 crore in the state in Q1FY27 and covered more than 5.3 lakh lives. Over 99 percent of its portfolio in the state comprises retail health insurance, the company said in a press note.
The company has 59 branches and over 550 network hospitals across Keralam.
As it marks two decades, Star Health is expanding its focus from insurance and claims settlement to broader healthcare access.
The company has launched Talk to Star, a service that provides customers with virtual doctor consultations and guidance on healthcare options, including planned hospitalisation and home-based treatment.
Customers can access the service through the Star Health app or call 7200 222 333 between 8 am and 8 pm.
For planned hospitalisation, Talk to Star can help customers:
Understand their policy coverage
Identify network hospitals
Clarify the cashless admission process
Know which documents need to be kept ready
Understand the next steps before admission
The service is also available in regional languages.
Star Health's cashless Home Healthcare service allows eligible policyholders to receive clinically appropriate treatment at home for conditions that do not require hospitalisation. It is now available across 300 cities.
Technology is playing a growing role in Star Health's claims processing. The company currently processes more than 10,000 claims a day, with 92 percent of cashless claims processed in less than three hours, the press note stated.
At the national level, Star Health has settled claims worth more than ₹71,100 crore since inception and has about 29 percent of India's retail health insurance market in Q1FY27.
Star Health said its two-decade presence in Keralam highlights the increasing importance of retail health insurance in a market where healthcare costs continue to rise and consumers are seeking wider financial protection.
With Talk to Star and Home Healthcare, Star Health is positioning itself not merely as a claims-paying insurer but as a healthcare partner offering support before, during and after hospitalisation.
