Born in 1932, in Atlantic City, USA, Dave Thomas was adopted as an infant. He lost his mother at the age of five and spent much of his childhood with his grandmother. Thomas started working at the age of 12 and later worked at the Regas Restaurant in Tennessee. He dropped out of school at 15.
Recognising the importance of education, he later established the Dave Thomas Education Center in Florida to help young adults complete their education. A strong advocate of adoption, he also founded the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Thomas became one of the most recognisable business figures in America after appearing in more than 800 television commercials for Wendy’s between 1989 and 2002.
