Major KINFRA projects on the way; Kerala bets for industrial growth

Many of them are already in progress, with completion timelines running up to 2025

Dhanam News Desk

The Economic Survey report, released last Friday, gives details of key projects headed by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA).

From new industrial parks to exhibition centres, these projects are expected to open up business opportunities, attract investments, and create jobs. Many of them are already in progress, with completion timelines running up to 2025.

Here's a snapshot of what's coming up:

Unity Mall, Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram

This ₹120-crore project plans to offer a dedicated platform for promoting traditional products, locally manufactured goods, and GI-tagged items, the products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation unique to that particular location. It will also house products from other states.

The five-storey structure will include an amphitheatre, exhibition areas, retail outlets, conference rooms, and a large auditorium, spread over 1,85,000 sq ft. The Union Government has sanctioned 50% of the interest-free loan required for the project, with construction said to be progressing soon.

Mini Industrial Park, Thonnakkal

This 7.48-acre park in Veiloor village is being developed for non-polluting MSME units. Key infrastructure, including roads, water, and electricity, is in the final stages. With an investment of Rs 9 crore, the park is expected to attract investments worth Rs 30 crore and generate 300 jobs. Allotments are underway, with 5.79 out of 6.4 acres already assigned to 14 entrepreneurs.

Petrochemical Park, Kochi

On 481.79 acres acquired from FACT, this park is envisioned as a petrochemical hub leveraging raw materials from the Cochin Refinery. Land has already been allotted to 24 industrialists. When fully operational, the park could said to potentially bring in Rs 10,000 crore in investments and create 10,000 jobs.

KINFRA Film and Video Park Phase II, Trivandrum

Responding to rising demand from IT and ITES sectors, KINFRA is constructing a seven-storey Standard Design Factory (SDF) with office and recreational spaces spanning 1.78 lakh sq ft. With a project cost of Rs 78.476 crore, 30 per cent of construction is complete. Expected to generate 2,500 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs, it may see investments worth Rs 600 crore.
