India’s food orders in 2025 leaned heavily on familiar favourites, with biryani, burgers, dosa and chicken rolls leading the charts, according to the annual food trends report released by Swiggy.
The 10th edition of How India Swiggy’d offers a snapshot of what people across the country actually ate through the year, tracking everyday meals, snack-time habits, late-night orders and festive splurges.
Biryani continued its long reign as India’s most-ordered dish. In 2025 alone, Swiggy clocked 93 million biryani orders. That works out to roughly 194 orders every minute, or about 3.25 biryanis every second.
Chicken Biryani dominated within the category, recording 57.7 million orders and the highest repeat demand. Burgers followed as the second most-ordered food with 44.2 million orders, while pizzas took the third spot at 40.1 million. Veg Dosa also stood out, with 26.2 million orders, underlining its steady popularity across regions.
The 3 pm to 7 pm window continued to be peak snack time. Burgers ruled this slot, led by Chicken Burgers with 6.3 million orders, followed by Veg Burgers at 4.2 million. Chicken Rolls, Veg Pizzas and Chicken Nuggets also featured prominently.
The classic chai–samosa break showed no signs of fading. During snack hours alone, Swiggy users ordered 3.42 million samosas and 2.9 million cups of adrak chai.
Desserts had a strong run through the year. White Chocolate Cake topped the list with 6.9 million orders, followed by Chocolate Cake at 5.4 million and Gulab Jamun at 4.5 million. Among Indian sweets, Kaju Barfi and Besan Ladoo followed close behind. Chocolate continued to dominate ice cream choices, with Dark Chocolate and Chocolate Sundaes leading orders.
Global cuisines also found space on Indian plates. Mexican food crossed 16 million orders, Tibetan cuisine went past 12 million, and Korean touched 4.7 million. Matcha emerged as the most searched global flavour of the year.
At the same time, regional Indian food saw sharp growth. Pahari cuisine recorded a nine-fold rise, while Malabari, Rajasthani, Malvani and other regional cuisines nearly doubled their order volumes over the year.
Food orders mirrored the scale of celebrations. In Hyderabad, a single customer spent ₹47,106 on 65 boxes of dry fruit cookie gift packs to mark the start of the festive season.
Mumbai saw another record, with one user placing 3,196 food orders in 2025, nearly nine orders a day, the highest in the country.
Among Swiggy’s quick-delivery services, Bengaluru recorded the highest number of Bolt orders, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam and Kochi emerged as fast-growing markets. Chocolate Cakes and Gulab Jamun were the most ordered desserts on Bolt.
On Swiggy’s 99Store, Bengaluru again led orders, with Hyderabad and Mumbai close behind. Indore, Visakhapatnam and Kochi also showed rising demand. Chocolate Pastries and Chocolate Cakes topped dessert sales, while Chicken Biryani, Paneer Pizza, Corn Garlic Bread and Chicken Fry featured among the most ordered items.
One Mumbai customer went all in on 99Store, ordering 15 Dum Chicken Biryanis, 10 Chicken Meatball Kebabs, five plates each of Falafel-e-Khaas and Pepper Paneer Biryani, along with 100 Gulab Jamuns.
Delivery partners powered this scale through the year. Collectively, they travelled 1.24 billion kilometres in 2025 — roughly the equivalent of driving from Kashmir to Kanyakumari about 3.4 lakh times.
Mohammad Razique from Bengaluru completed the highest number of deliveries at 11,718 orders. Poongodi from Chennai led among female delivery partners, completing 8,169 deliveries.
Taken together, the report suggests that while Indian diners continue to experiment, comfort food still anchors everyday choices — with biryani firmly holding its crown.
