Anand Mahindra has expressed interest in visiting Kadamakkudy, a cluster of islands located on the outskirts of Kochi, during his scheduled business trip to the city in December.
In a post shared on X, the chairman of the Mahindra Group wrote, “Kadamakkudy in Kerala. Often listed amongst the most beautiful villages on earth…” He added that the location is roughly a half-hour drive from the site of his business meetings in Kochi, and has now been added to his personal bucket list for December.
Mahindra’s social media remark has drawn fresh attention to Kadamakkudy, which remains relatively lesser known despite its proximity to urban centres.
Kadamakkudy is situated around 15 kilometres from Kochi, within the Ernakulam district of Kerala. The area comprises 14 small islands scattered across the backwaters and is accessible by road through Varappuzha, which connects to National Highway 66.
According to official tourism sources, Kadamakkudy is characterised by traditional livelihoods such as paddy cultivation, fish farming and toddy tapping. It also features views of the backwaters, rustic settlements, and occasional migratory birds, particularly between October and March—considered the ideal season for travel.
Among the 14 islands, Valiya Kadamakkudy is the largest and most prominent. Other notable islands include Murikkal and Palyam Thuruth. Religious and ecological sites in the surrounding region include St George's Forane Church, Vallarpadam Basilica, and the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary.
There is no official confirmation yet on whether Mahindra will make a stop at Kadamakkudy during his December trip. However, the public mention has already sparked renewed interest in the location.
