The Centre has reduced export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for the fortnight beginning June 1, easing the levy imposed earlier to ensure adequate domestic fuel supplies amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the export duty on petrol has been reduced to ₹1.5 per litre, while the duty on diesel has been lowered to ₹13.5 per litre. The export levy on ATF has been set at ₹9.5 per litre.
The government had introduced Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) and Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC) on fuel exports from March 27 to discourage overseas shipments and safeguard domestic availability as the West Asia crisis pushed up concerns over energy security.
The ministry said the duties are reviewed every fortnight based on movements in international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF.
For the fortnight starting June 1, the revised rates are:
Petrol: ₹1.5 per litre (SAED ₹1.5; RIC Nil)
Diesel: ₹13.5 per litre (SAED ₹13.5; RIC Nil)
ATF: ₹9.5 per litre (SAED only)
The government clarified that there is no change in the excise duty applicable to petrol and diesel sold in the domestic market.
The reduction reflects a moderation in international fuel price trends since the previous review on May 16 and is expected to provide some relief to refiners exporting petroleum products.
