EY India, the Indian arm of the global professional services firm, has partnered with Microsoft to launch the AI Skills Passport — a free online learning initiative aimed at equipping India’s youth with essential, job-ready skills in artificial intelligence (AI).
In a press statement, EY India said the programme is designed for learners aged 16 and above, including students and early-career professionals. It aims to provide equitable access to AI education at scale. The India rollout follows the global launch earlier this year, which recorded more than 40,000 enrolments and over 13,000 completions.
According to Nasscom, only 31% of professionals in India currently feel prepared to use AI tools effectively. The initiative seeks to close this gap by offering structured, accessible AI learning to support the country’s fast-growing digital economy.
Monesh Dange, partner and leader of alliances and ecosystems at EY India, said the launch reflects the growing need for skilled AI professionals. “In an era where AI is redefining the world of work, this programme gives young people the chance to develop meaningful, future-oriented skills,” he said. “Together with Microsoft, we’re ensuring it remains free and accessible to all.”
The EY–Microsoft AI Skills Passport includes about ten hours of self-paced, modular video lessons, hands-on exercises and assessments. Learners can explore AI fundamentals, responsible AI practices and industry applications across healthcare, finance and technology. The course also includes career-readiness content such as résumé building, interview preparation and professional networking tips.
Participants who complete the programme receive a verifiable digital badge to strengthen their job profiles. The initiative is part of EY Ripples, the firm’s global corporate responsibility programme focused on preparing future-ready workforces. EY will also partner with not-for-profit organisations to extend the programme to youth from economically weaker sections, offering mentorship and career guidance.
Bhaskar Basu, enterprise partnerships leader at Microsoft India and South Asia, said the initiative aligns with Microsoft’s goal of equipping 10 million Indians with AI skills by 2030. “AI is transforming India’s digital economy, and the youth are at its core. The AI Skills Passport reflects our vision of ‘AI for All’ by bringing high-quality learning in English and Hindi to learners everywhere,” he said.
