After days of fog chaos, IndiGo flight operations return to near normal

IndiGo flight disruptions ease across India; limited cancellations on December 22.

After days of anxious waits, missed connections and fog-driven chaos, IndiGo passengers finally had some good news to start the week. Flight operations across the airline’s network returned close to normal on December 22, with only two cancellations reported nationwide — a sharp improvement from the heavy disruptions seen earlier.

Only 2 cancellations

Just two services were cancelled on Monday. These were flight 6E 6409 from Pune to New Delhi and flight 6E 721 operating between Pune and Amritsar. The limited number of cancellations signals a major easing of weather-related disruptions that had hit air travel across north and east India over the past several days.

Dense fog and poor visibility had severely affected early morning flights, particularly at major northern airports. New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport were among the worst impacted during the fog spell, leading to frequent delays and cancellations. On December 22, however, both airports reported a sharp drop in cancellations, bringing much-needed relief to travellers.

Pune airport stood out as the only major hub witnessing confirmed IndiGo cancellations in the latest update, with both affected flights scheduled to depart from the city.

Stay alert, passengers told

Despite the improvement, IndiGo has urged passengers to remain cautious. The airline has warned that fog-related disruptions have not fully eased in all regions. In a travel advisory issued on December 21, IndiGo said dense fog continues to affect visibility in Srinagar, impacting flights to and from the airport.

The airline noted that as weather conditions change, some services may still face delays, while a few flights could be cancelled depending on operational feasibility. Passengers travelling on Srinagar routes have been advised to check flight status through IndiGo’s website or mobile app before heading to the airport.
