Air travel is turning costlier, and this time the trigger is a sharp spike in aviation fuel prices. With global crude markets under strain and jet fuel costs surging, airlines are steadily passing on the burden to passengers. The Air India group has revised its fuel surcharge across routes, signalling that higher ticket prices may persist in the near term.
The latest revision means passengers will see an immediate increase in fares, particularly for fresh bookings.
Domestic flights now carry a fuel surcharge of ₹399 per ticket
International routes vary by distance:
West Asia: about $10 (₹800+)
Southeast Asia: up to $60
Africa: up to $90
Europe: around $125
North America and Australia: up to $200
Simply put, the longer the journey, the higher the surcharge.
The revised charges apply only to tickets booked after April 8. Passengers who have already booked will not be impacted unless they make changes to their itinerary.
