Tesla has officially opened online bookings for its electric vehicles in India, beginning with the Model Y. The company’s digital configurator is now live on its website, allowing customers in over 30 Indian states and union territories to customise and place orders.
Tesla’s chief executive Elon Musk announced the update through a post on X. This is the company’s first direct sales move in India after years of discussions with Indian authorities over policy matters, particularly on import duties and local manufacturing.
While bookings have been enabled widely across the country, the company will prioritise deliveries to four metro cities, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Gurugram. These locations are expected to receive the first batch of vehicles, although no official delivery timeline has been provided yet.
The states where bookings are open include Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Punjab, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.
Only the Model Y is currently available for order. It is priced from ₹59.89 lakh, a figure driven up by India’s import duty structure on fully built luxury vehicles. Tesla has not confirmed whether additional models will be introduced or whether pricing could change with any future local assembly or production.
The company has not yet shared specific plans for service centres or charging infrastructure. Details on post-sale support, warranty, and expansion of sales operations are expected to follow in subsequent announcements.
