Muthoot Finance reported a sharp rise in earnings for the December quarter, supported by strong gold loan demand and higher interest income. The company has also raised its 2025-26 (FY26) loan growth guidance to 45 percent, citing sustained momentum in disbursements.

Standalone net profit nearly doubled to ₹2,656 crore in Q3FY26, compared with ₹1,363 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations rose 64 percent year-on-year to ₹7,243 crore, led by a 63 percent increase in interest income to ₹7,114 crore.

Gold loan AUM

Standalone loan assets under management (AUM) touched an all-time high of ₹1.48 lakh-crore, up 51 percent year-on-year. Of this, gold loan AUM stood at ₹1.40 lakh-crore.

In the December quarter alone, gold loan AUM rose by ₹14,740 crore, marking 12 percent sequential growth. For the nine-month period, overall loan AUM grew 36 percent, surpassing earlier projections.

“We had earlier guided for 30–35 percent growth. It’s time to revise that to 45 percent,” said George Alexander Muthoot, managing director. He attributed the surge in demand to tighter credit in unsecured personal loans, stress in microfinance and limited availability of collateral-free business loans. Customers are increasingly monetising gold jewellery to access quick credit, he added.

Regulatory easing

Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India removed the requirement of prior approval for gold loan NBFCs with over 1,000 branches to open new outlets. The company said the move reflects regulatory confidence in established players.

Muthoot Group’s consolidated network stood at 7,541 branches, after adding 150 branches during 9MFY26. It typically opens around 100 branches annually and plans calibrated expansion in FY26 and FY27.

On a consolidated basis, loan AUM reached a record ₹1.65 lakh-crore as of Q3FY26, rising 35 percent year-on-year.
