Technopark, India’s first IT campus, has completed 35 years since operations began in Thiruvananthapuram. The IT hub, which started on a cashew-filled hill named Vaidyan Kunnu, now operates across 760 acres and 12.72 million square feet in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.

Currently, over 500 companies function within its five campuses, including major global names such as Infosys, UST, TCS, HCLTech, Accenture, Tata Elxsi, Allianz, Oracle, Guidehouse, Nissan Digital, IBS, Quest Global and Toonz Animation.

Foreign firms like Armada and Dubai Insurance have also set up their Indian operations at Technopark. Several Kerala government institutions are based inside the park.

₹13,255 crore exports

According to data shared by Technopark, the facility contributed ₹13,255 crore in IT exports during 2023–24. A 15% growth is expected in 2024–25, depending on market trends.

The campus has retained a CRISIL A+ Stable rating for four consecutive years. Officials attribute this to its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) commitments, along with business-friendly infrastructure.

Massive expansion in the making

Over 4 million square feet of new development is underway, aimed at expanding capacity. If completed as planned, this phase could generate over 30,000 new jobs.

Among the major projects under construction are Phase 3 of Taurus Embassy’s Downtown Trivandrum, Phase 4 of the TCS IT/ITES campus, Phase 1 of Brigade’s World Trade Center, and Phase 4 of The Quad.

A working women’s hostel in Kollam, prefab IT buildings, and new commercial infrastructure are also progressing.

Tech hubs

Sector-specific projects include Kerala Space Park, Kerala Defence Innovation Zone, MSME Technology Centre, Emerging Tech Hub, Digital Science Park, and Mulearn by GTech. A Unity Mall is also part of the plans.

Technopark’s management stated that the current expansion is intended to attract more Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The park is hosting a series of programmes this week to mark the 35th anniversary.
