FlixBus, a European intercity bus service, has announced its plans to expand into Kerala as part of its broader strategy for South India. This follows the recent launch of its services in Bengaluru, where a promotional fare of Rs 99 generated interest of netizens on social media.

Initial services to these routes

According to the latest update from FlixBus India, the new services in Kerala are expected to commence later this year. The initial routes will connect Bengaluru to Kochi and Alappuzha. FlixBus will begin operations in the State with four buses, running two routes: one from Bengaluru to Kochi and another from Bengaluru to Alappuzha.

Surya Khurana, managing director of FlixBus India, stated that the company intends to concentrate its efforts on major cities such as Kochi, Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Palakkad.

In talk with local bus operators

FlixBus is currently in discussions with local bus operators to explore partnership opportunities, though no formal agreements have been announced yet. Regarding pricing, Mr Khurana noted that while there are no specific promotions planned for the launch, the company aims to keep its fares competitive to attract passengers.

In the past decade, FlixBus has established itself as a popular long-distance bus service in Europe. The major speciality of the bus is said to be its affordable and convenient travel option. Founded in Germany by three entrepreneurs, the company operates as a sustainable alternative to private transport. FlixBus claims to adhere to high environmental standards by utilising alternative fuel technologies.

With the introduction of FlixTrain, the company now offers intermodal travel options and has bus network in Europe, claims to be operating in over 40 countries across Europe, North America, South America, and now India.
