Big things are underway at Kinfra Park in Mattannur in Kannur district where the Kerala government is working on transforming the area into an industrial hub. The current plan involves setting up a science and IT park within the 1,000-acre space, and the early stages are already in motion.
The Kerala Industries Department is working to develop the park, not just as a space for industries, but as a special industrial smart city, particularly targeting private investors, including those from the expatriate community.
Kinfra Park, which started with just 128 acres, is on track to expand to 1,000 acres and the land acquisition process has already been completed. The government has spent around Rs 2,000 crore to make this expansion possible. But that’s not the end of it. There are plans to acquire another 5,000 acres to further strengthen the infrastructure.
Steps are being taken to bring a science and IT park to life. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project is ready, and it is expected to provide a strong opportunity for private entrepreneurs to venture into the IT sector.
Tthe government plans to host the Invest Kerala Global Summit at Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Centre in Kochi on February 21-22. This event is expected to be a turning point for Kinfra Park. The government is hoping to draw attention from investors, especially from the NRI community, to make the park a key investment destination in Kerala.
During a visit to the UAE to promote the summit, Industries Minister P Rajeeve mentioned the idea of launching a smart city for NRI investors in the state. If the expected investments materialise, the government plans to earmark 500 acres of land within Kinfra Park specifically for a special industrial park catering to expatriates.
