A new initiative aimed at professionals working in the Software as a Service (SaaS) space is beginning to take shape in Kerala. Named SaaS Spice, the community will host its first in-person meetup on July 12 at the SurveySparrow office in Infopark Phase 2, Kakkanad.

What is SaaS?

SaaS refers to software that is delivered over the internet, rather than being installed on a computer. Services like email tools, customer support platforms, or accounting software that are accessed through a browser or app fall under this category.

Companies offer them on a subscription basis, and users can access them from anywhere with a connection.

Event on AI and digital marketing

The upcoming session is titled `Marketing in the Age of LLMs: What’s Working Now vs Pre-LLM SEO.' It will explore how Large Language Models (LLMs) — the AI technology behind tools such as ChatGPT — are influencing current marketing strategies.

SurveySparrow’s internal team, which has worked on an AI-powered platform called SparrowGenie, is expected to lead the discussion. Topics will include the impact of LLMs on SEO, content generation, and customer engagement.

Kerala's growing base of professionals

Though Kerala has produced many professionals contributing to global SaaS products, organisers say the state has lacked a localised network or support system for people in the sector. SaaS Spice was formed to address that gap and encourage peer-to-peer learning within the state.

The community, which began as an informal group on LinkedIn, has now grown to more than 70 active members. It includes SaaS founders, product developers, engineers, designers, and marketers working from various parts of Kerala.

Beyond meetup

SaaS Spice aims to host regular meetups, workshops, and experience-sharing sessions going forward. There are also plans to compile a Kerala SaaS directory, publish founder stories and playbooks, and launch a job board to support hiring and visibility.

Organisers said the focus is on building a trusted, decentralised platform for people working in SaaS from Kerala — at any stage of their career.
