Wipro on Friday reported a drop in profit for the third quarter of 2025-26, mainly due to a one-time expense related to new labour laws. Revenue growth remained steady, and the company announced an interim dividend.
Net profit declines
Wipro reported a consolidated net profit of ₹3,119 crore for the October–December quarter, down 7 percent from ₹3,353.8 crore in the same quarter last year. Profit was also 3.9 percent lower compared with the previous quarter.
Reason for profit fall
The company said the decline was largely due to higher employee-related costs following the implementation of new labour codes. This included a one-time provision of ₹302.8 crore towards gratuity expenses.
Revenue shows growth
Revenue from operations increased 5.5 percent year-on-year to ₹23,555.8 crore. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, revenue rose 3.8 percent, pointing to stable business conditions.
Dividend announced
Wipro’s board approved an interim dividend of ₹6 per share. The record date for the dividend is January 27.
Management commentary
Chief executive officer and managing director Srini Pallia said the company delivered growth in line with expectations. He added that projects related to artificial intelligence saw higher demand, helping Wipro win new business during the quarter.
Industry-wide impact
The new labour codes have affected profits across the IT sector. Other major companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and HCLTech have also reported one-time costs in their third-quarter results.
Shares of Wipro closed at ₹267.25 on the BSE on Friday, ending the session with a gain of nearly 3 percent.
