The Kerala government has announced a hike in bonuses and allowances for its employees, teachers and thousands of other workers. State finance minister K N Balagopal said on Monday that the Onam bonus for government employees and teachers will go up by ₹500, taking the total to ₹4,500 this year.
For those who do not receive it, the government has increased the festival payment to ₹3,000. This change is expected to benefit a wide group, including part-time and contingent staff.
All government employees will receive an advance of ₹20,000. Other staff, including part-time and contingent employees, will get ₹6,000 as an advance. For contract and scheme workers, the festival allowance has been raised by ₹250 compared with last year.
According to the government, the revision will positively affect more than 13 lakh people across the state. The announcement comes as part of the state’s Onam benefits, which traditionally extend some extra financial support during the festive season.
