Aster DM Healthcare, led by Dr. Azad Moopen, has announced entering into an agreement to establish a new Aster Woman and Children Hospital in Hyderabad. The move is part of Aster’s plan to significantly expand its Indian operations after divesting its Gulf business for $1 billion (~Rs 8,300 crore), earlier in the year.
For the Hyderabad hospital, Aster will be following an asset-light model and has signed a 30-year lease with Aparna Constructions and Estates Private Limited through its subsidiary Sri Sainatha Multispecialty Hospitals Private Limited. Under the terms of the agreement, the company will adhere to a per-square-foot rent model.
300-bed super speciality hospital
The new Aster Woman and Children Hospital is expected to add 275-300 beds in two phases at an estimated investment of Rs 220 crores, which will be financed through a combination of bank loan and internal accruals.
Aster chose Hyderabad for its new hospital due to its growing population, healthcare hub status, and high demand for specialised maternal and paediatric care.
6500 bed capacity by 2027
As of June 30, Aster operates 19 hospitals across 15 cities and five states with a capacity of 4,869 beds. Along with the latest quarterly results, the company had announced plans to significantly increase its Indian footprint with addition of 1,700 beds by FY2027 to take total bed capacity to 6,500+.
Following the announcement, shares of Aster DM Healthcare rose to Rs 431.85 but has given up much of the gains and is now trading at Rs 426.60 (as of 11:00 AM), up 1.22%. The company has a market capitalisation of Rs 21,309 crore.
