Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) has reported its highest-ever liquor sales during the Onam season, with collections touching ₹970.74 crore over a 12-day stretch between August 25 and September 6.

The figure is up by 9.34% compared to the previous year’s ₹842.07 crore, according to data released on September 8.

As expected, Uthradam day (September 4) proved to be the busiest, with a staggering ₹137.64 crore worth of liquor flowing out of Bevco counters. The run-up was equally strong, with September 3 seeing ₹96.52 crore and September 2 marking ₹90.43 crore. By Uthradam day alone, KSBC had already sold liquor worth ₹826.38 crore.

Kollam outlets lead the chart

Among individual stores, Karunagappally’s Bevco outlet, sitting next to the Kollam warehouse, topped the State with sales worth ₹1.46 crore on Uthradam day. Close behind was the Kavanad Ashramam outlet in Kollam at ₹1.24 crore, followed by the Kuttippala Edappal outlet in Malappuram at ₹1.11 crore.

KSBC currently operates 278 Bevco outlets and 155 self-service stores across Kerala. Interestingly, all Bevco shops stayed shut on Onam day (September 5), reflecting the State’s customary dry-day practice.

While KSBC’s data is already out, Consumerfed – which also runs liquor outlets in Kerala – is yet to publish its sales figures.
