Aster to step up spend in Kerala by Rs 850 cr; two more hospitals in the works

Two Aster hospitals are coming up at Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur with a combined capacity of over 700 beds.

Aster DM Healthcare, that runs a chain of 19 hospitals across India, including Aster Medcity in Kochi, is planning to invest around Rs 850 crore in Kerala in the next three years

This will will be for upgrading its infrastructure and medical services. Aster already has seven hospitals in Kerala and two more are in the making.

Aster chairman Azad Moopen announced the new investment plan after his meeting with Kerala's chief Ministe, Pinarayi Vijayan, and the industries minister, P. RAjeeve on Friday. They met as part of the two-day Invest Kerala Global Summit held in Kochi.

500 cr invested in three years

Aster has already invested Rs 500 crore in Kerala over the last three years. “Aster has an aggressive investment plan in Kerala that will result in a significant increase in bed capacity," said the company in a press release. The total number of beds in Aster hospitals in Kerala would rise to 3,453 in two years from 2,635.

Two Aster hospitals are coming up at Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur: Aster Capital Trivandrum with a 454 beds facility and Aster MIMS Kasargod with 264 beds. The number of beds at Aster Medcity in Kochi would rise to 962 beds in the next two years. Recently, Aster Medcity added 100 beds.

Moopen's praise for Invest Kerala

Speaking at the Invest Kerala Global Summit, Azad Moopen noted, “Kerala has always been at the heart of Aster’s journey, and our commitment to the state is stronger than ever."

He praised the summit and said it was a pivotal initiative that underscored the state’s potential as a hub for high-impact investments. "We plan to invest an additional Rs 850 crore in the next three years to further strengthen Kerala’s healthcare landscape. Our expansion plans reflect our unwavering belief in Kerala’s potential as a leader in healthcare innovation and accessibility.”
