Online food aggregator and delivery platform Swiggy has introduced a new initiative called ‘Swiggy Seal’ in 650 Indian cities, according to PTI. The initiative aims to improve food quality standards and hygiene practices among the company’s restaurant partners.
Launched in Pune, the program will gradually expand to other cities in November. Since its introduction two weeks ago, there has been significant interest from restaurant partners, with hundreds of requests for hygiene audits already submitted, claims the company. If concerns are raised about a restaurant holding the Seal, Swiggy will review the feedback and may revoke the badge if the restaurant does not maintain the required standards.
Restaurants that meet the criteria will receive a ‘Swiggy Seal’ on their menu pages in the Swiggy app, which according to the company, indicates their plan to serve hygienic, high-quality meals in suitable packaging.
Customer review is the base
Swiggy plans to utilise its base of 7 million verified customers to gather reviews of restaurants over the past six months for valuable insights. The initiative aims to elevate hygiene practices among restaurant partners by providing them with comprehensive feedback and support to ensure the delivery of well-cooked food in high-quality packaging.
The focus areas will include optimal cooking, contamination prevention, and packaging quality. Swiggy will also share detailed customer reviews and feedback with restaurant partners to help them improve their practices and services.
In addition to customer insights, Swiggy intends to collaborate with agencies such as Equinox and Eurofins, accredited by the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), to offer restaurant partners access to professional hygiene audits at exclusive rates.
