A shopping mall in Gurugram stopped Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, from using their lift and main entrance video is now making buzz in the social media. The incident was revealed by Mr Goyal in a video while sharing his experiences after spending a day as a delivery partner.
Need to be more humane
In a post on platform X, Mr Goyal reflected on his experiences while picking up an order from Haldiram's at Ambience Mall in Gurugram. He expressed concern over the treatment of delivery partners, stating, “We need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners.”
During his visit to the mall, Mr Goyal encountered difficulties accessing the facilities there. Upon arriving at the entrance, he was redirected to a side entrance and had to climb stairs to reach the third floor, as the delivery agents are not allowed to enter the lifts. He discovered that delivery partners were not allowed to enter the mall and instead had to wait in the stairs for their orders. “To realise we can't enter the mall and have to wait at the stairs to receive the orders,” he noted in his video post.
While waiting for the order, Mr Goyal spent time with fellow delivery executives, gathering feedback about their experiences. He also described how he managed to collect the order by sneaking in when the staircase guard took a break. His insights shed light on the challenges faced by delivery agents, particularly in relation to working conditions in malls.
Learn from the boss!
Another highlights of his experience was delivering an order to the office of a curated fashion label, Ala Mode By Akanksha. The brand shared a post featuring Goyal, praising his hands-on approach and commitment to leadership: “Learn from the boss himself how to do it right! @deepigoyal at the @a.la.modebyakanksha office, personally delivering an order. His hustle, humility, and hands-on approach show what true leadership and entrepreneurship is all about.”
In a display of leadership, Mr Goyal donned a delivery agent's uniform and took to the streets alongside his wife, Grecia Munoz, to better understand the daily lives of his employees. He documented their journey on Instagram, sharing photos and insights from their day.
