Film Awards: Malayalam film 'Aattam' and 'Gulmohar' bag top honours

Malayalam film 'Aattam' won Best Feature Film, and Kannada film 'Kantara' was named Best Popular Film at the 70th National Film Awards. Manoj Bajpayee’s 'Gulmohar' took Best Hindi Film.

Malayalam movie 'Aattam', directed by Anand Ekarshi won the Best Feature Film in the latest list released for 70th National Film Awards, 2022. 

'Attam' also won awards in the editing and screenplay categories. Edited by Mahesh Bhuwanand and scripted by Anand Ekarshi, the film featured Vinay Fort and Kalabhavan Shajon in lead roles.

'Saudi Vellakka' directed by Tarun Murthy was selected as the Best Malayalam Film. Bombay Jayashree won the Best Female Playback Singer award for her song in this film. Sreepath won the award for Best Child Artist for his performance in the Malayalam movie 'Malikappuram'.

Kannada movie 'Kantara' was selected as the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. 
Manoj Bajpayee starrer 'Gulmohar' was chosen as the Best Hindi Film, while 'K.G.F Chapter-2' was selected as the Best Kannada Film.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Best actress awards

Nithya Menen (Thiruchitrambalam) and Manasi Parekh (Kutch Express) shared the award for the Best Actress in a Leading Role. 

Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury Rahul Rawail announced the list of winners. News agency PTI quoted Rahul Rawailas saying: “The best actress in a leading role is tied, so we have two winners. There is Nithya Menen for the Tamil film ‘Thiruchitrambalam’. The second one is Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film ‘Kutch Express’. The best actor in a leading role is Rishab Shetty for Kantara. The best director of the year goes to Sooraj Barjatya for ‘Uunchai’. The best feature film goes to a Malyalam film called ‘Aattam’, produced by John Movie Productions and directed by Anand Ekarshi."

Other awards

Sooraj R. Barjatya won the award for Best Direction for the Hindi film 'Uunchai,' and Rishabh Shetty was awarded Best Actor in Leading Role for 'Kantara.'

Ponniyin Selvan 1 won the Best Tamil Film award. AR Rahman won the Best Music Director (Background Music) award and Ravi Varman won the Best Cinematography award for the same film. 

Special Mention went to Manoj Bajpayee for his performance in the Hindi film 'Gulmohar' and Sanjoy Salil Chowdhury for his music direction in the Malayalam film 'Kadhikan'.

Arijit Singh was chosen as the Best Male Playback Singer and Pritam as the music director for 'Brahmastra-Part 1: Shiva'.

The Haryanvi film 'Fouja,' directed by Pramod Kumar, was awarded the Best Debut Film of a Director, while the Gujarati film 'Kutch Express' won the award for Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental Values.

Ayan Mukherji's 'Brahmastra-Part 1: Shiva' was recognised as the Best Film in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comic category.

‘Murmurs of the Jungle,’ directed by Sohil Vaidya, was named the Best Documentary.
Pavan Raj Malhotra was recognised as Best Supporting Actor for 'Fouja,' while Neena Gupta won Best Supporting Actress for 'Uunchai.'
