The Railway Board has officially approved the construction of a railway station at Nedumbassery, a long-awaited move aimed at enhancing connectivity for air passengers travelling to and from the Cochin International Airport. The approval marks a significant step forward in improving the region’s transport infrastructure and is expected to make travel more convenient for passengers flying in and out of the airport.

Union Minister George Kurian’s office issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the development, stating that the move had been a longstanding demand from passengers. According to the statement, Kurian had met with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier this month, who assured him that the project would be expedited.

A year of approval

The plan to build the station gained significant momentum following a site inspection by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to the area last year. Vaishnaw personally identified the proposed location for the station during a window-trailing inspection, providing the necessary push for the project to proceed.

Once operational, the new railway station at Nedumbassery is expected to offer smoother and faster travel options for passengers arriving at or departing from the Cochin International Airport.

Expressing his appreciation for the efforts to fast-track the project, Kurian thanked both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Vaishnaw for their support. He highlighted the importance of the railway station in improving the region's infrastructure and accessibility, especially for airport users.

The approval of the station construction marks a significant leap towards improving Kerala’s transport connectivity and facilitating smoother travel for passengers in the region.
