The much-talked-about Tamil epic-fantasy film Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, was released on November 14. According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the movie earned approximately ₹22 crore on its opening day.
The movie features Suriya, a popular Tamil actor who was previously seen in movies like Soorarai Pottru (its Hindi remake Sarfira features Akshay Kumar.) The actor was also seen at the end of Kamal Hassan's movie Vikram and is likely to play a crucial role in the next part of the movie.
The film, made with an estimated budget of over ₹350 crore, was shot in seven countries apart from various parts of India. In India, the film was shot in Chennai, Goa, Kerala, Kodaikanal, and Rajahmundry. Notably, Kanguva was initially announced in 2019 but the plan was put on hold due to Covid.
Suriya portrays two different characters. One version of him seems to be set in the modern era, where he dons flashy outfits and a trendy haircut, while the second shows him in a more fierce, warrior-like role. Bobby Deol plays the antagonist in the movie. The film features scenes set 1,500 years in the past. Apart from Suriya and Bobby, the film includes Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, and Ananda.
Suriya in double roles
The movie trailer created a buzz on social media. The trailer offers a glimpse of Bobby Deol, who plays the antagonist in the movie. Deol looks intense, ready to face off against Suriya in what promises to be an epic showdown. The makers recently released the powerful 'Naayak' track from the film. The track opens with visuals of Suriya in an intense avatar. The song includes an intense fight sense of Suriya in the rain.
Directors are somehow able to convince Suriya to essay double-role characters in films, including "Perazhagan", "Vel", "Vaaranam Aayiram", "7aum Arivu" as well as "24", in which he played a triple role.
“I try my best to push away double roles. But I have done six or seven films in double roles and one in triple roles, in '24'. I have had many arguments with my directors about double roles as I feel that double roles do not connect to the audiences," Suriya said recently.
“I don't look like my father and my father doesn't look like me... But in Kanguva, there's a timeline. I think once you watch the film maybe you will understand why the same actor is playing this character.”
