Very heavy rain warning for Wayanad. ‘Red’ for  Lakshadweep

IMD issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy rain in Wayanad, Kerala, and a ‘red’ alert for Lakshadweep. Heavy showers expected in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kozhikode.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy rainfall in Wayanad, Kerala, with similar conditions expected in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kozhikode. A ‘red’ alert has been issued for Lakshadweep, indicating extremely heavy rainfall.

Kerala

In Wayanad, where recent landslides triggered by heavy rains claimed over 230 lives on July 30, the IMD warns of heavy rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours. 

Very heavy rainfall (12 cm to 20 cm in 24 hours) is expected in Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur on Wednesday, with Kozhikode and Wayanad also at risk on Thursday.

Lakshadweep

A 'red' alert has been issued for Lakshadweep, warning of extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours at isolated locations on Wednesday.

South peninsular India

The southern regions, including Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka, are forecasted to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall. Scattered to fairly widespread showers are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.

Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from August 15th to 19th, with particularly intense rains on August 16th and 17th.

Kerala and Mahe will also face heavy rainfall on August 15th and 19th, with Lakshadweep experiencing similar conditions from August 15th to 19th.

The interior regions of Karnataka are likely to receive isolated very heavy rainfall, especially on August 15th and 16th.

Northwest India 

Northwest India is expected to witness widespread light to moderate rainfall across Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Scattered rainfall is anticipated in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next 4-5 days.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and West Rajasthan between August 15th and 17th.

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are expected to experience significant rainfall from August 15th to 21st, with isolated very heavy rainfall in parts of East and West Rajasthan on August 15th and 16th.

West & Central India 

Widespread light to moderate rainfall is forecasted in West and Central India, covering Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.

Scattered showers are expected in Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat. Isolated to scattered rainfall will affect Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Saurashtra & Kutch over the next week.

West Madhya Pradesh will see isolated heavy rainfall on August 15th, 16th, and 19th to 21st, while East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will experience heavy showers between August 15th and 21st.

Chhattisgarh is expected to receive isolated very heavy rainfall on August 15th and 16th.

East & Northeast India 

East and Northeast India are in for a wet spell, with widespread light to moderate rainfall across East India and scattered rainfall in the Northeast.

Heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from August 15th to 16th, and Gangetic West Bengal from August 15th to 18th.

Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Odisha will experience isolated heavy rainfall from August 15th to 21st, with very heavy rainfall expected in Gangetic West Bengal on August 16th and 17th, and in Jharkhand on August 17th and 18th.
