A mutual fund has gained attention following Congress party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s filing of nomination papers to contest the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. According to PTI, Priyanka has invested Rs 2.24 crore in the Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund-Growth.

As of September 30, she holds 13,200 units of this fund, which has reported gains of 13.73% over six months, 39.74% over one year, and 17.73% over three years. The fund's performance is either in line with or above the category average. It invests 95.93% of its assets in equities, 0.14% in debt, and 3.93% in other assets, focusing on sectors such as financials, technology, energy, services, and communications. Of its total investments, 53% is in large companies, 21.33% in large-cap companies, 21.67% in smallcap companies, and 0.01% in very small companies.

The minimum investment in the fund is Rs 5,000, with subsequent investments in multiples of Rs 1,000. The minimum amount for a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is Rs 500. The fund manages assets worth Rs 18,251.58 crore.

Priyanka Gandhi and her husband, businessman Robert Vadra, have a combined net worth of Rs 88 crore, including Rs 4.24 crore in fixed assets. Her net worth is Rs 12 crore, which includes a 12,000-square-foot house in Shimla valued at Rs 5.63 crore. She also jointly owns agricultural land worth Rs 5 crore in Sultanpur village, Delhi, with her brother Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, she possesses a Honda CRV worth Rs 8 lakh, a gift from Robert Vadra, who has three cars, including a Mini Cooper.

More than mutual funds

Beyond mutual funds, Priyanka has Rs 17.38 lakh in a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account, gold worth Rs 16 crore, silver valued at Rs 29 lakh, and Rs 3.6 lakh in bank accounts. Robert Vadra has Rs 37.61 lakh in savings, current, and fixed deposits.

Priyanka Gandhi does not hold any stocks, while Robert Vadera has invested in 18 stocks, including Usha Martin, Infosys, and Tata Power, with investments in C Jeweller, Rites, and others totalling Rs 1.03 crore. He has also invested Rs 32.79 lakh in mutual funds such as Axis Growth Opportunities Fund and HDFC Small Cap Fund.

Priyanka's income for the last financial year (2023-24) was Rs 46.39 lakh, down from Rs 47.21 lakh in 2022-23. Her previous earnings include Rs 19.89 lakh in 2021-22 and Rs 69.31 lakh in 2020-21. Robert Vadra's income was Rs 15.09 lakh in 2023-24, Rs 9.35 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 11.38 lakh in 2020-21, and Rs 55.58 lakh in 2019-20.

Rahul Gandhi’s investments

Rahul Gandhi has also made investments in seven mutual funds, including Rs 1.23 crore in the HDFC Smallcap Regular Fund, which has increased by 51.85% over the past year. He holds Rs 1.02 crore in the ICICI Prudential Regular Savings Fund and Rs 79 lakh in the HDFC Hybrid Debt Fund.
