Apple has launched the iPhone 17 series in India, introducing two non-Pro models this year. The regular iPhone 17 brings the usual annual upgrades to a wider set of users, while the new iPhone 17 Air makes its debut as a thinner, lighter but more premium option.

Pre-orders for both begin on September 12 at 5:30PM IST, with sales starting on September 19.

Larger display, new chip and dual cameras

The standard iPhone 17 now comes with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display, featuring ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. This also enables the Always On Display function.

Powering the phone is Apple’s latest A19 chip, built on a 3nm process. It ships with iOS 26 and comes with 256GB storage as the base option.

On the camera side, the device houses a 48MP Fusion Main sensor with 2x digital lossless zoom and a new 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera for high-resolution macro and wide shots. The front camera supports Apple’s Center Stage AI framing, now offering up to 18MP resolution.

The iPhone 17 will be available in black, lavender, mist blue, sage and white, starting at ₹82,900.

iPhone 17 Air: slim design with titanium build

The iPhone 17 Air stands out as Apple’s slimmest iPhone yet at just 5.6mm thick. The lighter form factor is achieved with a titanium chassis and an eSIM-only design introduced worldwide.

The device has a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with the same ProMotion refresh range as the standard model. Inside, it runs on three Apple-designed chips: the A19 Pro, N1 wireless networking chip and C1X cellular modem.

Apple says its single 48MP Fusion camera system offers the flexibility of four focal lengths. The front camera also supports Center Stage with 18MP resolution and improved stabilisation for 4K HDR video.

The iPhone 17 Air will be available in space black, cloud white, light gold and sky blue, priced from ₹1,19,900.

Durability and software

Both iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air feature Ceramic Shield 2, said to be three times more scratch-resistant than the previous version. They also run on iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence features built into the system.
