The offer coincides with the company’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, signalling its growing commitment to India as a key market for AI innovation and adoption.

The free-access offer applies to both new users and existing ChatGPT Go subscribers, who will automatically receive an additional 12 months of complimentary access.

What ChatGPT Go offers

Launched in India in August, ChatGPT Go is a lower-cost subscription tier created in response to user feedback for more affordable access to advanced AI tools. The plan includes higher message limits, image generation, and file upload features, making it suitable for personal and professional use alike.

According to OpenAI, India was among the first countries to get access to ChatGPT Go, underlining the company’s India-first approach. Within a month of launch, the number of paid ChatGPT subscribers in India more than doubled, prompting OpenAI to expand the Go plan to nearly 90 global markets.

India, second largest market

OpenAI has described India as its second-largest and one of its fastest-growing user bases, with millions of developers, students, and professionals relying on ChatGPT every day.

“This promotion continues OpenAI’s ‘India-first’ commitment and supports the IndiaAI Mission, reinforcing the growing momentum around AI in India as the country prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year,” the company said in a statement.

Indians' push

Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, said the response from Indian users since the launch of ChatGPT Go had been highly encouraging.

“Since launching ChatGPT Go in India a few months ago, the adoption and creativity we’ve seen from users has been inspiring,” Turley said. “Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India access and benefit from advanced AI.”
