Apple has introduced its new iPhone 16 series, marking a significant upgrade in its smartphone lineup. The new range includes four models: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This release emphasises the company's commitment to integrating generative artificial intelligence into its devices, aiming to enhance performance and capture a larger market share in the tech industry.
Pricing and availability
The iPhone 16 retains the pricing from last year, starting at approximately ₹65,000 ($799) for the 128GB variant and ₹74,000 ($899) for the 256GB model. In the Indian market, the iPhone 16 is priced at ₹79,900, the iPhone 16 Plus at ₹89,900, the iPhone 16 Pro at ₹1,19,900, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at ₹1,44,900. Pre-orders for the new series will open on September 13 at 5:30 PM IST, with the official sale commencing on September 20.
Design and features
The design of the iPhone 16 has seen a notable change, featuring a vertical camera layout as opposed to the previous year's diagonal setup. This redesign is expected to enhance the phone's ability to capture spatial video, offering a new dimension to video recording. For the more advanced iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, Apple has introduced substantial upgrades, including significant improvements to the rear camera system, a new chipset, advanced AI capabilities, better battery life, and larger display sizes.
Discontinued models
As part of the product refresh, Apple has discontinued several older models. The iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 will no longer be available through Apple’s official store, though they may still be found through other e-commerce platforms and retail outlets until stocks are depleted. Similarly, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max were phased out with the launch of the iPhone 15 series, and now, with the arrival of the iPhone 16, the iPhone 13 Pro and Mini models are also discontinued.
Price reductions for older models
Additionally, Apple has announced price reductions for some of its existing models. The iPhone 15 has been cut by ₹10,000, now available for ₹69,900, while the iPhone 15 Plus also sees a ₹10,000 decrease, bringing its price to ₹79,900. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have similarly been reduced by ₹10,000 each, now priced at ₹59,900 and ₹69,900 respectively.
