Apple's ultra-slim iPhone Air could receive a major hardware overhaul in 2027, addressing two important concerns associated with its predecessor: limited camera versatility and battery capacity.
Fresh media leaks suggest that the iPhone Air 2 may introduce a dual-camera system, a larger battery and a next-generation processor while retaining the lightweight design that distinguishes the device from conventional smartphones.
The changes could make the Air series more competitive in India's premium smartphone market, where buyers increasingly expect flagship-level features alongside distinctive designs.
Apple is reportedly developing the iPhone Air 2 with two 48-megapixel rear cameras. The proposed setup includes a primary wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide-angle sensor, replacing the single 48MP rear camera on the original iPhone Air.
This would address one of the limitations of the first-generation device, allowing users to capture landscapes, group photographs and wider scenes without depending entirely on the primary lens.
The original iPhone Air, introduced in September 2025, measures just 5.64mm in thickness and weighs 165 grams. Its slim construction helped differentiate the model, but also involved compromises in hardware configuration.
Battery performance is another area where Apple could introduce improvements. Earlier leaks suggested that the iPhone Air 2 might accommodate a battery capacity of approximately 3,500mAh or higher, compared with the roughly 3,149mAh battery reported for its predecessor. However, the latest leak does not specify an exact capacity.
The smartphone is also tipped to feature Apple's A20-series processor, reportedly manufactured using an advanced 2nm fabrication process.
The new chipset could deliver improved processing performance and energy efficiency, potentially helping Apple balance battery life with the device's slim construction.
Other rumoured specifications include Apple's N2 wireless chip and C2 modem.
The iPhone Air 2 is expected to feature a 6.55-inch flat OLED display with 1.5K+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
However, the existing iPhone Air already supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Therefore, the latest leak suggests continuity rather than an entirely new display capability.
Previous reports have also suggested that Apple could reduce the device's thickness to approximately 5.2mm.
The iPhone Air 2 is tipped to arrive in spring 2027, potentially alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
In India, the original iPhone Air launched at ₹1,19,900 for its 256GB variant, placing it firmly in the premium segment. The successor's pricing remains unknown.
A dual-camera system and improved battery capacity could strengthen Apple's proposition to Indian consumers who found the original Air expensive relative to its features.
Apple has not officially confirmed the iPhone Air 2, its specifications, pricing or launch schedule. All reported upgrades remain speculative.
