Germany is currently experiencing a shortage of approximately 4 lakh skilled workers, with many of these positions expected to be filled by foreign professionals, including Indian nationals.

Last year, Germany had signed an agreement with India to increase the annual cap on work visas for skilled Indian professionals from 20,000 to 90,000.

Demand high in healthcare, IT

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has announced that the country plans to address this gap by filling 4,00,000 job vacancies this year, with the highest demand in healthcare, IT, and construction.

Germany is actively recruiting skilled professionals across 28 sectors, including healthcare roles such as nurses, caregivers, and medical technicians.

The tech industry is also a key focus, with demand for software engineers, cybersecurity specialists, AI experts, and data analysts. Other critical areas include manufacturing and engineering, logistics and transportation, hospitality and tourism, education, and construction-related trades such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.

The Consular Services Portal, launched in recent times, offers a fully online visa application process, designed to enhance speed and efficiency. With this system, applicants no longer need to schedule in-person appointments, as applications can be submitted entirely online.

Soon to get placed

Authorities anticipate faster processing times, though the extent of the improvement remains to be seen. The portal is available at 167 visa offices worldwide and supports various visa categories beyond work permits, including apprenticeships and family reunification.
