Indian passport holders now have a broader gateway to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), thanks to an expanded visa-on-arrival programme. The UAE has added six more countries to its eligibility list, making travel easier for a larger pool of Indian travellers.

Eligibility

Previously, Indian nationals could avail themselves of the UAE's visa-on-arrival facility if they had valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from the US, UK, or any EU country. Now, this has been extended to those holding valid documentation from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada as well.

To qualify, travellers must have an ordinary Indian passport with at least six months’ validity from their date of arrival. Meeting this criterion allows them to obtain a visa upon landing, after paying the required fee at immigration checkpoints.

Visa fees and duration

The UAE has categorised the visa-on-arrival fees into different durations. A 4-day visa costs Dh100 (approx. ₹2,270), while a 14-day extension is priced at Dh250 (approx. ₹5,670). A 60-day visa is also available for Dh250 (approx. ₹5,670).

Officials suggest that this expansion is part of a broader strategic approach between the UAE and India, aiming to make travel more accessible for Indian citizens. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the UAE’s Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), noted that this initiative supports stronger ties between the two nations.

For Indian travellers

The change also opens up opportunities for Indian travellers—whether they are visiting for leisure, business, or exploring work and residency prospects in the UAE.

While the UAE benefits from an influx of tourists and business visitors, Indian nationals get an easier route to experience its economy, tourism, and lifestyle.
