The indices are poised for new records; concerns loom over slower GDP growth and a dip in GST collections; economic data lacks excitement; crude oil dips; dollar strengthens.

The Sensex closed 231 points, or 0.28 percent, higher at 82,365.77, while the Nifty 50 settled 84 points, or 0.33 percent, higher at 25,235.90.

In early trading, the Sensex rose to 82,637, and the Nifty reached 25,258.8 before retracting.

Nifty and Sensex pushed higher, with hopes of further gains; US recession fears ease; crude oil hits $80 per barrel.

Momentum indicators suggest a bullish trend, as the Nifty continues to  trade above both its short-term and long-term moving averages.

The Sensex closed 349 points (0.43 percent) higher at 82,134.61; the Nifty 50 settled at 25,151.95, up 100 points (0.40 percent)

Reliance's media subsidiaries TV18 Broadcast and Network18 Media saw a significant rise of around 11%.
