The Sensex closed the day with a loss of 931 points, or 1.15 percent, at 80,220.72, while the Nifty 50 settled at 24,472.10, down 309 points or 1.25 percent.

The Nifty 50 ended the trading session with a drop of 0.29%, closing at 24,781; the Sensex finished the trading day closing at 81,151, down by 0.09%.

The overall market capitalisation of firms listed on the BSE plunged to nearly ₹457.3 lakh crore from nearly ₹463.3 lakh crore in the previous session, making investors poorer by about ₹6 lakh crore in a day.

The Sensex fell 319 points, or 0.39 percent, to 81,501.36, while the Nifty 50 settled at 24,971.30, down 86 points, or 0.34 percent.

The Sensex slipped 153 points, or 0.19 percent, to 81,820.12, while the Nifty 50 closed 71 points, or 0.28 percent, lower at 25,057.35.

The Sensex closed 592 points, or 0.73 percent, higher at 81,973.05, while the Nifty 50 settled at 25,127.95, up 164 points, or 0.66 percent.

Wipro's shares rose by up to 3% as the company announced plans for a bonus issue.

The rupee fell below 84 against the dollar for the first time; the Nifty dropped below 25,000 for the third straight day at 24,964.; the Sensex ended the day at 81,381.

Markets@10: The Nifty Bank and Financial Services indices both dropped by about 1% early on but staged a recovery later in the day.

Despite the formation of a black candle on the daily chart, the index managed to close just above the previous day’s level, suggesting a potential consolidation phase.
